Abstract
This research was conducted under the Lath house canopy at Baghdad University in 2013 to study the effect of soaking lemon seeds (sour orange) in different concentrations of licorice extract (0, 0.5, 2.5, and 4.5 g/l) for 24 hours, on the percentage of germination and vegetative growth of seedlings. The results showed that the bitter orange seedlings soaked in licorice extract at 4.5 g/l exhibited significant superiority in most traits, including plant height (31.077 cm), leaf number (14.46 leaves/plant), root length (25.35 cm), and stem diameter (0.52 mm). These results were significantly higher compared to the control treatment, which showed lower values. The biological effect of licorice extract was similar to the effect of Gibberellin on the germination of lemon and sour orange seeds.
