Abstract
The tapeworm parasite Raillietina echinobothrida, belonging to the class Cestoda, causes nodular tapeworm disease in poultry. This study aimed to determine tapeworm infections in Columba livia from two markets in Baghdad between May and December 2014. Thirty-five Columba livia samples were randomly selected, and their elementary canals were examined. The study found that 6 out of 35 pigeons (17.14%) were infected with Raillietina echinobothrida. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in all characteristics of the cestode, except for the length of the rostellum hooks.
