Abstract

This study investigated the prevalence of anti-thyroid peroxidase (Anti-TPO) antibodies in type 2 diabetes patients with thyroid disorders. Conducted at the Specialized Center for Endocrinology and Diabetes in Baghdad from December 2014 to October 2015, the study included 80 subjects: 60 type 2 diabetic patients (20 with hyperthyroidism, 20 with hypothyroidism, 20 with euthyroidism) and 20 healthy controls. The results showed significantly higher levels of age, gender, and BMI in the patient groups compared to healthy controls (p<0.01). The hypothyroidism group had the highest mean Anti-TPO levels (333.57 ± 104.77). T3 and T4 levels were higher in the hyperthyroidism group, while TSH levels were elevated in the hypothyroidism group.
