Abstract
Rates of hair loss during pregnancy and lactation and their relationship with the dietary intakes of vit.A, iron, zinc as well as the complex of vit.B6, folic acid and vit. B12 were the objectives of the present research. The data showed that when the daily dietary intake of vit.A, iron, zinc, and vit.B complex by pregnant women was less than the RDA, the hair fall percentages increased reaching their highest values of 18.6%, 68.9%, 8.3%, 57.2%, 28.9%, and 61.7% for vit.A, iron, zinc, vit.B6, folic acid and vit. B12, respectively. It was also shown that the lack in the RDA continued for all nutrients except folic acid during the normal lactation period and this led to continued hair fall during this period, the decrease reached the highest percentage of 43.3, 37.4, 24.4, 54.8 and 67.6% for vit.A, iron, zinc, vit.B6 and vit. B12, respectively. It was also observed that the nutrients intake by the lactating women decreased in contrast with that of the pregnant which had a negative influence on hair fall. Therefore, the nutrients deficiency could be considered among the factors which speed up the hair fall during the pregnancy and lactation periods and a healthy hair growth is obtained through a balanced nutrition. Generally there is significance variation at statistical index between low level and medium level for hair fall during pregnancy and there is no significance variations at statistical index between levels of hair fall during lactation.
